Atacama Solitude – Onder de wijdse hemel van de hoge Atacama plateaus is het leven hard en karig. Toch leeft er veel. In de bergen is het koel en er zijn plekken met water aan de oppervlakte, dat trekt watervogels als eenden met blauwe snavels en roze flamingo’s. Ook de Vicuna is thuis op deze hoogvlakten. Vaak in groepen op zoek naar voedsel, soms alleen, met als enige gezelschap de wind en altijd onder toeziend oog van de machtige, besneeuwde bergtoppen. Structuren in dit landschap doen denken aan andere planeten, maar de kleuren zijn ontegenzeglijk aards. Paars, geel en baksteenrood van zand en steen, blauw, wit en grijs van bergtop en hemel.

Under the open skies of the Atacama high plateaus, life is tough and sparse. Still, much is alive here. In the mountains the air is cool and there are places where water surfaces, pulling in water fowl like blue-billed ducks and pink flamingos. The Vicuna too is at home on these plateaus. Often in groups looking for food, sometimes alone, with only the wind for company and always watched over by the mighty, snowy mountain tops. Structures in this landscape seem from another planet, but the colours are decidedly earthly. Purple, yellow, and brick red for sand and stones, blue, grey, and white for the mountain tops and sky.
